Lasmid To Create A New Genre Called Afrorave, Subgenre Of Afrobeat

Ghanaian singer, rapper and songwriter who hails from Takoradi in the Western region of Ghana, Lasmid Owusu Nathaniel also known on stage as Lasmid, has now become a hot cake in the music industry recently after dropping his anticipated song dubbed “Friday Night” which was produced by himself.

last week Friday, Lasmid was on TV3 to discuss his musical career and the Afro-Rap genre. After Rema of Nigeria and Toya Delazy of South Africa, Lasmid is the most recent and sole performer from Ghana to claim the emerging musical style known as “Afrorave”.

Per what we deciphered, Afrorave is a subset of Afrobeat, a term used to describe sounds from West Africa and as Lasmid confirmed on TV3 NewDAY, “Afro-rave. It’s a combination of Highlife, Hip-hop, hiplife, everything is versatile”.

Lasmid also spoke about his journey from school, participating in MTN Hitmaker and working whilst dreaming of music.

“My father wanted me to attend school, but I had no desire to do so. I was surrounded by music. I was always doing songs. When I’m at work, I’ll be singing and composing, and that’s where I noticed PP Black and Nii Kotey. They said I could handle it.
