It’s About Time We Project AFRIMA To The Grammy Levels, Kwame Dadzie Calls On Africans To Support Their Own

Ghanaian Popular entertainment journalist, Kwame Dadzie has lamented Ghanaian artist’s desire for Grammy awards even though he explains that getting a grammy nomination is a very good thing and helps to amplify your craft to the world at large but thinks it’s about time we as Africans stands to promote our established award schemes.

Many Ghanaian musicians aim is to grab a grammy plaque one day in their lives which has been their ultimate goal in doing music.

He wrote.

It is good to get nominated in foreign award schemes. In fact, almost every musician I have come across or heard is eyeing the Grammys. That’s their ultimate goal.
But wait! I think our [Ghanaians’] obsession with the Grammys is sometimes nauseating. I strongly believe most times we put so much pressure on our artists when it comes to such award schemes.
Mind you, so far as Grammy Awards largely remains an American award scheme, there is no way they are going to make their “minority” targets their primary focus.
Y’all will always be lumped up in some category called Global Music.
If the Afrobeats category thing goes through, that could be the home category for all African music genres [or should I say Nigerian songs mixed with some Afro-induced American songs?]
It’s about time, as Africans, we projected AFRIMA to the Grammy level. I had high hopes in KORA Awards and MOBO until they went off the radar.
It will take some time, but we had better start.
