Last Saturday, Sabelor Cultural Group energized the Arts Center in Accra with a captivating cultural performance, drawing the admiration of visitors who had gathered to shop. The lively atmosphere and powerful display of Ghanaian traditional music and dance turned an ordinary shopping experience into a cultural spectacle.
Located along the coastal belt of Accra, the Arts Center serves as a vibrant cultural hub, attracting both Ghanaians and foreign visitors in search of handcrafted artifacts and cultural merchandise. The weekends are particularly bustling, making it the perfect setting for Sabelor Cultural Group to provide an impromptu performance that entertained and engaged the crowd.
Comprising skilled singers, dancers, and instrumentalists, the group delivered a stellar showcase of traditional Ghanaian dance forms, including Adowa and Kpanlogo. Their performance was complemented by the rhythmic sounds of indigenous instruments such as the Gome, Djembe, Maracas, Atumpan, Talking Drum, and Congas.
When asked whether the performance was a paid engagement, the group’s leader humbly responded, “Every now and then, we play for free to entertain lovers of cultural music as our way of giving back to society.”
Based in Osu, Sabelor Cultural Group is widely recognized as one of Ghana’s leading cultural ensembles, dedicated to preserving and promoting the nation’s rich musical and dance heritage. Their passion for traditional arts continues to make a lasting impact, ensuring that Ghanaian culture remains vibrant and celebrated both locally and internationally.
