“I Don’t Do Music For Awards” – Kojo Antwi

Legendary Ghanaian Afro-pop, highlife and reggae musical artist, Mr Music Man, Kojo Antwi says his main purpose of doing music is not to win awards but for it’s not his thing.

In an exclusive interview with Abeiku Santana On the ATUU show on UTV, Kojo Antwi reveals that his music is not for awards but it’s something God has given to him and anytime God bless him with a song he shares it with the world and that’s what strikes him to focus on doing good music, he said it’s good to be honoured for the good work you have done as an artist but he as a musician is not the kind thing that he will fall for.

He said the BET which every African artist wishes to win is being structured to accommodate them but they are one way or the other looking at the commercial aspect of it, setting the Nigerian music market as an example.

“Nigeria, big market how do we penetrate through, let’s do and select a few people and see how best we can go, look now afrobeat, Afro music is big all over the world Nigerian music is topping top places they are now collaborating with top American artists and they are touring over the world, it’s nice but what is the message”, He stated.

Born Julius Kojo Antwi into a family of 13 siblings, he grew up in Darkuman a suburb of Accra. He has 22 albums to his name, with “Tom & Jerry” becoming one of his most popular songs in West Africa Ghana. A former GHAMRO chairman.
