High Life

This is the 4th Edition of the Ghana Day Festival and for the first time is being staged for two days and two nights with a Highlife music open air concert at the historic centre of HELVETIAPLATZ in Zurich.

Also, it’s the first ever highlife music open air concert to be staged in any part of the world and thus it’s being staged with highly profiled Highlife musicians from the past that we’ve grown to listen to and new evergreen artists.

The purpose of the event is to showcase Ghanaian cultural heritage and also to start the preservation and the comeback of highlife music which is one of the intangible assets recognised by UNESCO to be protected.

So for the first time, Highlife music has its own summer world stage in Zurich to show the world why it’s the genre that has influenced most of the modern-day new music genres example what is known as Afrobeats.

It’s going to be a night of explosive performances from the old schooler Oheneba Kissi, Adane Best, KK Fosu, Kwasi Pee, Dada KD, Okyeame Kwame, Dada Hafco, Epixode and Aka Blay and his band being the main band to support the entire artists’ performances.

Locally there are some supporting acts like energetic Habyba, the stylish Mikay, Shaibu the shaiguy, Jennifer Throne, Bless Sowah and a host of others.

The main architect of this event Philip Wangyimba( Wangyims), a serial music and creative practitioner who doubles as the PR, media and communications executive of The Association of Ghanaian Unions Switzerland the organisers of the event expressed that he personally wants to thank his AGUS president Nurudeen Taimako and the entire executives, partners the National Folklore Board chairwoman Auntie Bernice Ann Deh-Kumah with her team and The vice president of the Creative Arts Agency Frank Owusu (Frankie 5) for their unwavering support in helping to put this together and expects that history is about to made and the story of Highlife music getting back to mainstream is just about to happen.
