The 97th annual Academy Awards have concluded, with independent film Anora emerging as the night’s biggest winner, securing five out of the six categories it was nominated in.
Many of its victories came in highly competitive categories, including Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.
The climax of Sunday’s ceremony saw Anora claim the most coveted award of the night—Best Picture.
It outperformed the two major musicals, Emilia Pérez and Wicked, which received 13 and 10 nominations, respectively, but each secured only two wins.
Anora also proved to be a favourite among Academy voters over another independent contender, The Brutalist, which won three awards out of its 10 nominations.Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.
