DJ Ashmen has been nominated Mixtape of the Year category at the 2025 Guinness Ghana DJ awards for his Ghana’s Independence Mixtape released in March this year.
The mixtape has been recognised alongside other notable mixtapes such as Pine & Jinja 008 by DJ Millzy & El Chapo; 23rd June Mix by DJ Lord OTB; December Heat – DJ Sonatty feat HypeGad 2gar; Sage Party Vibes 2 – DJ Khalifa & MCee Nice and 2k25 Afro Muse – DJ Vyrusky.
The others are Trap & Vibes mixtape by DJ Spincho; Cups & Bass (Aboten) by DJ Loft & Kojo Manuel and DJ Cyril and Darren Flex’s Snatch & Grind.
With a career spanning over two decades, DJ Ashmen has established himself as a luminary in the Ghanaian music industry, known for his vast knowledge of traditional and modern Ghanaian music.
As a renowned DJ, he has consistently championed Ghana’s unique sound, emphasising the importance of embracing traditional genres like Highlife and Hiplife.
He said his nomination for Mixtape of the Year showcases his exceptional creativity and dedication to promoting Ghanaian music.
“We have a unique music identity, Highlife and Hiplife, and we must be intentional about getting it out there. That is what Ghana Independence mixtape projected,” he said.
An annual event, The Ghana DJ Awards recognises and celebrates the talents of disc jockeys in Ghana and beyond and this year’s event scheduled to take place at Palms Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach on Saturday, November 29, has garnered significant attention.
This year, DJ Sly King leads the pack with eight nominations, including DJ of the Year and Best Mobile DJ. Reigning DJ of the Year, DJ Lord OTB, follows closely with seven nominations.
The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards is a celebration of Ghana’s vibrant DJ culture, and this year’s event themed, “Shake the floor” promises to be an exciting one.
There are 32 categories, including three honorary awards. Some of the notable categories are the ultimate DJ of the Year, Song of the Year, Gospel DJ of the Year and Artiste of the Year.
The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards also recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the music industry.
This year’s honorary award recipients Doreen Andoh( Lifetime Achievement Award), Frank Kwakye(Master of Production Award) and Mr Kofi Amoakohene, who will be honoured with Culture Enabler Award.
