Okomfour Kwadee isn’t a MUSIGA member; we have no obligation to help – Abena Ruthy

Abena Ruthy, the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA)’s Second Vice President, has made it clear that not all Ghanaian musicians are members of the union. Abena Ruthy emphasized on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that not all Ghanaian artists automatically become members. She revealed that MUSIGA does not currently include even well-known hip-hop musician Okomfour Kwadee.

he explained that the union is not obligated to assist Kwadee, despite previous support for him and their willingness to do so on humanitarian grounds. Our president encouraged us to offer assistance despite the fact that Kwadee is not even a member at the moment. That’s what we’re doing, then. Ours is a family. She stated, “We are not required to assist, but we are attempting to support him as much as we can.”

Abena Ruthy also emphasized that the union primarily supports musicians who are current members. It is commonly held that one is automatically a member of MUSIGA if they sing. She clarified, “But we have members in good standing,” and he is not one of them at this time.

She also urged musicians all over the country to join MUSIGA to ensure that they receive assistance when they need it. You should sign up for anything beneficial because it’s important. She continued, “We believe that continuing education will help artistes understand the necessity to be part of MUSIGA.” We hope that more people will contribute, and The Ghanaian artist, who was once well-known, has struggled with mental health issues and has been in and out of rehabilitation facilities.
