Afro Fusion Star Burna Boy Reveals Toni Braxton Receives 60% of Royalties From ‘Last Last’

Nigerian Grammy Award-Winning Artist, Burna Boy has made a surprising revelation about a song from his latest album.

On Sunday (July 3), Burna, born Damini Ogulu, appeared on Gillie Da King’s Million Dollarz Worth Of Game podcast. In the over one-hour interview with the international superstar, Gillie and cohost Wallo267 chopped it up about his rise to fame, family and his single “Last Last,” released in May.

The Grammy-winning artist told Wallo about his desire to use Toni Braxton’s 2000 hit song “He Wasn’t Man Enough” in a sample.

“It was Chopsticks (his producer), but that has always been my idea, to be honest. I knew he could do something crazy, I just pointed that sh*t out, and he took it from there. That’s one of the most special creative processes.”

After discussing the track, Burna divulged that Braxton collected a hefty paycheck– 60% of the royalties from “Last Last.”

He didn’t sweat her cut, insisting that he just wanted a bomb track, and the single gave what it was supposed to give. Burna even hoped to meet the “Breathe Again” songstress one day.

“But she is taking 60% of the sh*t, so I’m not even complaining. Hopefully, she even pops out to one of the shows,” he said to Wallo267.

The two hosts continued to talk to the Afro Beats artist, asking him about his meteoric rise to fame outside of the continent and selling out New York’s Madison Square Garden.

“It’s is a great honour to me, but at the same time, it is something that comes with a lot of negative eyes.”

Burna expounded by saying he viewed himself as a global artist and not just a son of Africans.

“When you know that your purpose is bigger than any one place or person, then you begin to take life like that and see life like that.”

Burna, who just celebrated his 31st birthday on July 2, shared what it was like for Drake to admire his artistry in 2016.

In a recent interview, Burna Boy shared that he self-directed the music video. The video was shot at his home in Lagos and other hand-picked locations.

In the song, Burna Boy reflects on his past relationships before ultimately concluding everything will be okay.

‘Last Last’ will also feature on Burna Boy’s upcoming album ‘Love, Damini’.
